Easter Bunny Hopping Sales

It’s Easter time and are your sales hopping or are they stale? It doesn’t matter if you have a book store or a Doctors office you still need sales to stay in business. To get sales you need return customers and continue to grow your customers all the time. Here are some quick hitters on getting your sales opping;

1. Measure all Sales. Are you getting the maximum sales and profit from each item. It doesn’t matter if you are making a certain percentage on a item, what matters is if someone buys it. oricing is a touchy subject and almost everyone has their own philosophy. But are you measuring the sales on each item? Are you measuring the sales of items you have on your display ends? If you don’t do this each week you will be surprised to learn what is selling and what isn’t.

2. Be in the season your customers want. Do you know what your customers want? Are you changing with the new seasons? Or are you still doing the same things you have done in the past because they used to work? Customers like new items, they like excitement and good quality items or service. Talk to your customers and ask them what they want, if you do this you will stay in the season your customers want.

3. Train..Train..Train.. You can never train your employees too much. Keep training them the new trends. Keep training them new ways to engage your customers and increase sales. Keep training touyr managers so they are current with the ever changing seasons and working with their training schedules.

4. Keep learning. Keep learning yourself to become better at merchandising and markieting. If you still are marketing like you did 5 or 10 years ago you probably are losing out on new customers and sales. Learn from other businesses on what is working for them. You don’t always have to create a new wheel.

I enjoy creating excitement and growing sales. I enjoy it when the customer count goes up. Find your passion in growing sales, growing your customer count and creating excitement. Make the effort today and go for it. If you make the effort daily and really go after it anything is possible.

Inventory Control will help your bottom line

Doe’s your backroom look like this? How much money could you be losing with a backroom like this. If your business is small, large or a home business you can benefit from having less Inventory of Merchandise or Supplies on hand. It can not only improve your Gross Profit but also lower your labor and more. Here are five areas that can be improved by getting control over your backroom.

1. Increase Gross Profit

When you have a lot of Inventory things seem to get damaged the more you handle it. By reducing your damage you increase your Gross Profit. Also by having less Inventory on hand you are able to take advantage of last minute deals that are at a great cost.

2. Labor Savings

The best way to make money on what you buy is to handle it once, when it comes in and it fit’s right on the shelf. But if part of the case comes to the backroom and you have to handle it again it adds to the labor you have in the item and reduces your profit. If you could have a giant scoreboard in the backroom that would add up the labor cost each time you handle a item more than once it would make you think twice of having excessive back stock. I had one department that got there inventory down and the department manager said they saved 10 hours a week. If the average employee wage was $10 an hour that is $100 per week or $5,200 per year in just one department by reducing there inventory in the backroom. Imagine if your store had 21 departments.

3. Improve Moral

With less inventory for your employees to dig thru in the backroom the happier they will be. It will be easier for them to get their job done and they will in turn be able to focus more energy to giving great customer service and improving sales. I recently had an employee say how nice it was to work in there department now that the back cooler was so low of Inventory on hand. Happier employees are more productive and work harder also.

4. Lower Expenses

Not only you would lower your labor expense by having less Inventory on hand like the above example of the department saving $10 a week but if you rent an outside storage unit you can save on it also. I have worked at a store that rented three outside containers, each one cost $89 per month. That is $267 per month or $3,204 per year. Every dollar saved on your expenses goes straight to the bottom line.

5. Free up Money

If you have 200 locations in your chain and each location reduces there inventory just $10,000 that would free up $2,000,000 that you could use towards new locations or remodel your current locations. If you are a sole business owner you know the importance of not having money laying around not working for you.

Sometimes the best way to get it in control is to have one person approve any purchases that doesn’t fit on the shelf. It is like going on a diet from ordering and selling what you currently have on hand. Inventory control is one of the best ways to add to your business net profit.

Businesses want a Full Parking Lot

I have worked with Grocery Chains, Grocery Stores, Ice Businesses, Insurance Companies, Bread Company, Online Businesses and Home Businesses for over 30 years. One of the main things they all have in common is that they all want a full parking lot. It doesn’t matter if they have many store fronts, on-line website or a home business they all need customers to succeed. They all need to keep growing each year by finding more customers and filling up their parking lots.

There are many ways we can fill up our parking lots for our businesses. I am not saying it is easy, it will take “EFFORT”. I know it isn’t just one thing that will fill your parking lot. It may take trying new things, things you may never have tried or things that feel out of the box. A famous quote I like is how Albert Einstein defined Insanity:

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” by Albert Einstein
How many times have you kept doing the same things but hoping for different results? Here are a few quick hitters to help fill up your parking lot:
1. Talk to your Customers and Potential Customers – Ask them what they want. Ask them what problems they have that they need solved. Then work on solving their problems. Some really successful people in the business world have got out of their comfort zone and asked people to do business with them. A great leader for a Major grocery chain went door to door when he got his first store and introduced himself. I’ve done that at stores I ran in the past and it does work. I would gave them a flier with coupons to come in and shop with us. I then invited them to come in and see our improved store, I would let them know that we would really appreciate their business. How many towns have you lived in that a business owner came to your door and asked for your business? Why not also talk to your current customers and talk to them, ask for ideas and more. You don’t have to be a business owner or store director to do this. I have known many department managers do this or their employees.
2. Net work with other successful business leaders. Expand the people in your business world. I like to surround my self with positive and forward thinking people. People that don’t say the word “Can’t”. I like to surround myself with people who believe anything is possible. I believe we can learn from everyone we meet. Two people can accomplish more than one person.
3. Study successful businesses. Visit them and see what they are doing. See what you can learn from them. It doesn’t have to be in the same line of business that you are in. For instance if you run a Grocery Store you could learn from successful book store, car dealer to a restaurant. Find out why people are drawn to them and why people keep coming back to their businesses. If you have a website study other websites that have a lot of traffic and find the things they are doing different.
Be patient. It may not happen overnight. Your parking lot may grow gradually. Be patient and keep focused on filling up your parking lot. I have always felt customer count was one of the most important measures of how you are doing. Is your customer count or website traffic increasing or decreasing? Be patient, some people give up too early and throw in the towel. Coke for instance sold like $50 in pop their first year and lost money, now they are know world wide as a major pop company. Good thing they didn’t quit after their first year.  Please let me know how you have filled up your parking lot over the years.

Time for a New Year – Goals review of the Past and Goals for the Future

 

Last year was a Good Year

2011 just seemed to fly by and here it is 2012 already. I am so grateful for my life. Each year of my life seems to get better and better. Do you see your life as that? Or do you dwell on what things didn’t go well or that you don’t have.

I am thankful for my family, friends and mentors in my life. Each one of you are unique and touch my life in a special way. You help open up my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. You help challenge me to keep improving. If you don’t have a mentor that is helping you see a new world of possibilities or that is challenging you than go out and find one.

I am thankful that my kids keep moving forward in their lives. My daughter has graduated from college and moving to a different state to teach school. My son may be graduating in three years with his BA degree from a major University. I am so proud of them. They both keep following their dreams without fear. They aren’t afraid about moving to different states or meeting new people. I am sure they will be great leaders their whole life. I am so proud of them both.

I am thankful for my mom and sister who have such a great outlook on life. They are so supportive and loving. They are so helpful to others and care so much for others. My three nieces keep growing up so fast. Last year was a great year for Amanda winning State High School bowling tournament and then Ashley won the Gold Medal at State Finals in Bowling this year. All three nieces take after my Dad who was a great bowler and coach. Do you help share your talents with others?

I am thankful for my friends at work, coaches, speakers and others that help me grow in my business. You all help me continue to learn and improve and keep my mind open to new ideas. What network do you have? Do you network with others at work or in your business? If not their are many groups around the country that you can find like minded people. Even using social media like Facebook, Twitter or Linkedin. You can network with me on all three sites.

Goals from 2011 Review

Overall I am happy with the goals I hit or worked towards in 2011. I am not upset over the goals I didn’t hit because I know I made progress and learned from them. Seems during the year goals change on how important each one is. Did you hit your goals from last year? Here are some of the goals I set last year and what progress I made towards them.

1. To better relationships – I did spend more time on the golf course this week with friends and making new friends. I did change bowling teams and creating new friendships with other bowlers. One of my friends went through a divorce last year so it was nice to be able to be there for him and it is good how well he is doing. One of my close friends got promoted to another state so that is good for him and his family but a bummer that he will be so far away. I have made new friendships i work and outside of work that I really appreciate it and I thank them all. Even though I didn’t fall in love in 2011 I feel I had a great year for improving my relationships with others.

2. To get my book published – Finally my bookdid get published in November of 2011. I started it back in 2008 and appreciate the good work the publisher did on it. Book sales not started out as strong as I hoped for yet. But I will keep working on selling more in 2012. I know it can help so many people around the world.

3. Lose 15lbs – 2011 I did lose about 4 lbs. Between golfing, traveling, pop at work and traveling too much did not help my eating habits. I did lose weight during the year and gained it back. Argh… I did start back exercising again two months ago so feel 2012 will be a even better year. I feel that is what helped me bowl 300 game last month in my bowling league. I have more energy when I exercise and am losing weight.

Goals for the New Year and moving ahead

You may say I am crazy or thing yourself is crazy by your goals for the new year. I feel I am wiser each year. So here is my goals for 2012 moving ahead:

1. Improve all my relationships from personal to business. Network more with Entrepreneurs, Coaches and Speakers. To find people to join my team in business and communicate will with them to help them reach their goals also. To fall in love, someone to spoil and enjoy life together.

2. To write my fifth book for Business success. Using my 37 years of expereince in the business world and grocery business. I hope to help other business grow and be more successful with the book.

3. To help over a million people around the world with my Books, CD’s, Coaching and Speeches. I would also like to hit all 50 states. So far I have helped people in 41 states and 13 countries. Even if I help people in a little way it will change their lives for ever.

4. In sports I would like to get a hole in one golfing, shoot in the 60′s one round, bowl another 300 game and 800 series.

5. To get in really good shape. Lose few more lbs and keep working out to stay toned.

6. Would like to take three vacations during the year to recharge.

7. To continue my education by learning from others at classes, seminars and more.

What are you Thankful for?

 

The above is a photo of one of my son’s guitars. I am so thankful of having a healthy Son and a healthy Daughter. I am thankful of so many things that I keep a list of them in my office. Do you have a list of the things you are thankful for? November is a even better time to make your list than ever before since Thanksgiving day is coming soon November 24th.

If you would do a search on the power of being thankful you would find many health benefits for yourself and other benefits. Some say that people that spend just some time each day to be thankful seem to be more optimistic, feel belonging and a more positive mood. In-turn they could have less stress and be happier. As we know stress in our lives could bring on health conditions that we do not want. Plus it is a lot more fun to enjoy each day than worry about it. I know I sleep better when I am not feeling much stress in my life.

For instance I have a new thing to be thankful tonight for, I just bowled my sixth 300 game in my life. I am thankful for my health to be able to bowl it, thankful for my teammates encouragement tonight. Thankful for all the years my dad coached me and was so patient with me. My dad was a great bowler and he bowled two 300 games in his 70′s. Each time I have a great night bowling it is in his honor. I sure miss him. I have faith and know he was watching me bowl tonight.

Some people feel they have nothing to be thankful for because they may be out of work or going through a foreclosure or even a divorce. But I do believe that if they would sit down and make a list of things they are grateful in their lives they would be amazed at how many things they do have on their list. As we know things could always be worse.

I encourage everyone this month to make a list of all the things you are thankful for. They can be material things, things about yourself, your health, your family, your friends, your job, etc. The list can go on when you put your mind to it. Then each morning read your list and anytime you think of a new item you are thankful for then add it to the list. Then after you do this for a month please send me a e-mail and let me know how your mood has changed. Then think on Thanksgiving Day you will already have your list of things to talk about if your family goes around the table.
